Eco Council
Eco council are made up of two children from each class Reception to Year 6. In the Autumn Term children who would like to be a member of Eco Council put their names forward for election. The junior children make small speeches to their peers about why they should be the class Eco member.
Everyone in the class votes for the person they would like to be their Eco Council member. The successful candidates are revealed in assembly and given a badge to wear for that academic year.
During the year they regularly attend meetings with Mrs Hall and draw up action plans and job roles.
Some Highlights from 2023 - 2024:
The year started off well with Mrs Roper, Mrs Hall and the 4 oldest eco warriors going to the Climate Summit in Wigan. All six came back with lots of ideas and masses of enthusiasm.
We had lots of meetings to discuss what we wanted to do.
The children wanted to encourage more recycling and we wanted to develop the land near the adventure park into a wild flower meadow to encourage insects, develop biodiversity and sustainability
We have had great links with Manchester United this year with the Eco Reds.
At Christmas Bethany Hall won a Manchester wide competition by designing an eco Christmas card that United could use. The prize was that the whole of Turquoise Class went on a trip to see Manchester United grounds and museum.
We held our own 'Green Week' with 'Meat Free Monday', Stalls in the Hall, Walk to School-Car Share Wednesday, Matt from Ocean Generation led an assembly for us about plastic pollution on Thursday and Recycle Day Friday!
At the end of the year Mrs Hall and the four eco reds attended a celebration at Manchester United's stadium.
We have had many meetings and the planet is in safe hands if Parklee Eco Council are anything to go by.
After the summit at the beginning of the year the children wanted a Forest School. We saw what a building company in Leigh had done for one school and had an idea to contact the building firm that would be building houses near our school. Bloor Homes have agreed to help develop our Forest School so exciting times are coming!
